When an idea becomes a business and then a life project, the deepest desire of its courageous founders is for both the business and family harmony to transcend time and generations.

Coming from an entrepreneurial family myself, I have firsthand experience of what this means. I am also convinced that family businesses are a vital driver of a nation's economy. When a family business is not professionalized, it is common to find ambiguous rules and communication gaps among family members — both those involved in the business and those who are not.

Often, everyone has an opinion on everything, schedules are flexible according to personal convenience, performance can be a source of frustration due to either overstepping or a lack of initiative.

It is also frequent for family members to give instructions to employees who do not report to them, pursue unclear objectives, or expect salaries and dividends without clear justification.

Many times, leadership is ineffective, and the organizational culture mirrors the dysfunctions of the founding family. This compromises coexistence, emotional health, and business management, even when family protocols are in place but incomplete or disregarded.
